Only 2%? Mana or artifacts: what to upgrade in Lords Mobile

Why rally fillers and trap accounts need different priorities, how troop charge differs from building level, and how to compare your next completed upgrade.

Choosing between mana and artifacts in Lords Mobile starts with your account's role. Rally fillers need to understand their guild's requirements; trap owners need to strengthen their own defence. Even an identical budget can lead them to different choices. Compare two specific upgrades you can finish, rather than entire systems.

In the Mana 1 or artifacts? discussion, a player asks where to spend money. One reply initially recommends mana for joining stronger guilds, then switches to artifacts after learning that the account is a trap. Another trap player argues for mana. The disagreement is useful: a confident recommendation means little without the role and current progress.

Mana can mean three different upgrades

Building levels. In the version 2.146 description, IGG separates building development using Mana Ore and Mana Crystals from the Mana Awakening research branch and troop charge. A new building level does not establish that the troop type you need is already charged.

Research. This has its own chain of requirements and effects. When someone recommends mana first, ask which step they mean: unlocking further development, increasing resource income or obtaining a combat boost now. Money and materials go into different operations.

Mana Charge. The official description says this increases the base stats of Infantry, Ranged or Cavalry. Charging a selected type applies across its troop tiers. Strengthening Infantry does not simultaneously strengthen the other two types.

Why only 2% is a poor comparison

The community reference divides the first complete charge level into five 0.4% steps, totaling 2% to the selected troop type's base stats. Check whether you are comparing one step, a complete level or only a building level. Read your next operation's cost on its own game screen.

A percentage of base stats is different from a percentage in an ordinary bonus entry. The stat's name matters more than the number's size. Players in the same thread propose converting mana's effect into an equivalent HP bonus from other upgrades. One such example cannot promise a specific battle improvement or reduction in your army's losses.

Write down each option's full bonus name, troop type and conditions. A note reading 2% versus 10% hides exactly the differences that determine the decision.

Artifacts have more than one progression track too

Artifacts can gain levels and stars; some collections provide set bonuses. The official system announcement makes this distinction. Open an artifact you already own and identify the available next step: another level, a star or completion of a set condition.

The real screen below shows an hourglass at Lv.1 with two stars, while the right side offers promotion from two to three stars. Those are separate scales. Artifact shards and brushes are shown alongside it: an attractive card alone does not complete the upgrade. Read each property label separately. The artifact list includes ordinary bonuses and variants requiring the leader or Battle Fury. Castle defence and your chosen event need matching conditions. A large card number does not help where the corresponding bonus is inactive.

Three roles, three different questions

You fill other players' rallies. First ask your guild which troops and charge it expects. If one achievable step remains before meeting that requirement, it has a concrete benefit for your role. A comment saying good guilds require mana is not a universal rule for every team.

You are building a trap. Examine the weakness in your own defence and available boosts for the relevant troops. Our guide to Castles that deliberately invite attacks explains that role. If stored materials can finish a useful artifact, compare that result with the nearest charge upgrade. A claim that artifacts are always better ignores your collection's actual state.

You are developing your own combat account. Choose a scenario: defence, an attack using a particular troop type or a specific event. Compare suitable upgrades for that scenario. A universal priority list can direct resources into an impressive-looking stat that rarely matters in your play.

Calculate the next finished step

For mana, record the entire remaining chain to the chosen charge: buildings, research and charge itself. For an artifact, record materials needed for the chosen level or star. Compare remaining costs from your current position. The full cost from zero says little to a player who has already completed most of the route.

The systems use different materials: brushes do not become Mana Crystals. A real choice arises where a common resource is limited, such as a purchase budget, a selectable reward or event time. You may be able to use materials already saved for one system while continuing to accumulate resources for the other.

Estimate your usual resource income rather than your best day of the month. The author of a mana progression spreadsheet explicitly models different scenarios depending on whether players collect event crystals. Those times follow from those assumptions. Plan around events you actually enter and rewards you would have to give up.

A useful goal is specific: finish Infantry charge to the level the guild needs, or add a star to an owned artifact for the relevant HP bonus. It has an effect, a remaining material requirement and a clear completion point. Mana versus artifacts then becomes easier to decide, and can be reconsidered when the account changes.

Frequently asked questions

Does a mana building's level equal troop charge level?
No. Building development, Mana Awakening research and Mana Charge are separate operations. Check the relevant troop type's charge in the Mana Chamber.
Must I abandon artifacts to focus on mana?
Not necessarily. The systems use different materials. Compare priorities where a common resource is limited: budget, a selectable reward or time. An upgrade using saved materials may not interfere with the second goal.
