Viking Rise SP heroes: do not mistake a preview for an upgrade

An SP badge does not mean every talent is fully developed. Read the awakening requirement, the cost of one operation and the difference between previewed and active effects.

An SP badge on a portrait does not mean every talent has already changed to its new version. The IGG update description for Viking Rise distinguishes SP promotion from further development. Before spending shards, check the promotion requirement, which talent changes now and whether you are viewing a preview rather than the active effect.

What SP means and why awakening matters

SP is a separate hero development grade. IGG names Verdandi, Sigurd and Jens as its first heroes and Generic SP Hero Shards as the resource for promotion and upgrades. The exact item name matters: do not count every kind of shard you own towards the same operation.

Jens’s SP Promotion window explicitly says the hero can be promoted after being Awakened. The portrait on the right therefore shows a possible result, not proof that your hero is ready. Read the condition at the bottom first. Awakening here is the required state before SP promotion. Open the game frame at full size.

The promotion requirement is hero awakening. Flóki918 game frame, 16 September 2026, 3:45; interface text is preserved.

The frame is from Flóki918’s video of 16 September 2026, not our game account. It establishes the awakening condition. Check your kingdom’s availability in the game help: the screen alone does not promise that SP is already available on every server.

A red portrait does not upgrade the whole talent circle

A talent is an individual effect in a hero’s progression, with its own level and description. In DKR Gaming’s video of 18 September, Verdandi already has SP on her portrait, but some surrounding icons are red and others remain gold. The selected Targeted Strike shows the previous version at 5/5 and offers SP Promotion Preview.

At the bottom of this particular screen, Quick Upgrade shows Required: 750 beside the red SP icon. That is the requirement of the shown operation. 750 is not established as the total cost of an SP hero, and one talent at 5/5 does not mean the entire SP branch is complete. Check the selected effect, required item and shortfall before confirming. Open the game frame at full size.

Compare the level, condition and trigger interval

The adjacent frame opens a Targeted Strike comparison. The right card is the previous version at 5/5; the left is the SP version at 1/5. The right gives direct damage with a factor of 550 every 6 seconds, increasing to 1,100 against a Burning target. The left shows 600 and 1,200 respectively. If the target is not Burning, the left description also applies Burn with a factor of 200 each second for 2 seconds. Open the comparison at full size.

The preview compares different versions and levels of Targeted Strike. DKR Gaming frame, 18 September 2026, 9:21; factors and conditions have not been redrawn.

The central point is that these are different versions at different levels. This screen does not establish 600 as the SP talent’s maximum or as your current hero’s value while a preview is open. Max Level Preview offers a view of the maximum; its button does not mean the maximum has been applied. Mount skins also require you to separate Unlock Attributes from Ascension Preview: current stats and future results are listed separately.

Damage Factor is a coefficient in these descriptions. It cannot automatically be read as the number of enemy soldiers lost or the final battle result. Burn is the target condition affecting the effect. A 600-versus-550 comparison is incomplete without the Burning conditions and six-second interval. Assessing actual performance requires comparable battle reports, not talent cards alone.

What to check before pressing Quick Upgrade

Leave the preview and record the selected talent’s active description first. Then compare its future version by level, trigger conditions, factors and required shards. Decide which specific effect your troops need: this talent now or saving for another step. That ties the decision to the next operation’s result rather than a new portrait alone.

After promotion, return to the card and check what actually changed. Save before-and-after screenshots with the level and full effect description. For combat performance, compare reports with the same heroes, troops and conditions separately. These screens cannot identify a universally best SP hero or a complete development budget.

Checked on 6 October 2026. The dated September game frames explain how to distinguish current state, operation cost and a preview. If a talent’s text changes, use the current card in your client.
