Mythical Gemstone in a Rare RAID Relic? Match the Socket shape
Why a Rare Relic can accept a Mythical Gemstone, which shapes fit and what to check before socketing. Two original Plarium screens explained.

Our Relic Rank, Level and Rarity guide explains why more stars do not add Sockets. Gemstones have another easily missed rule: a Mythical Gemstone can fit a Rare Relic. The Gemstone and Socket must match in shape, not Rarity.
Why the Relic’s colour does not prevent socketing
A Gemstone grants a Champion an additional passive Ability through a Relic. A Socket holds that Gemstone. An item sitting in Gemstone Storage does not strengthen a Champion on its own; it needs a compatible Relic that the Champion will wear.
Plarium’s official guide explicitly gives both examples: a Mythical Gemstone in a Rare Relic and a Rare Gemstone in a Mythical Relic. You do not need to wait for a matching colour purely for compatibility. A compatible pair is not automatically the best pair for your Champion, however.
Relic Rarity determines Socket count: Rare has one, Epic two, Legendary three and Mythical four. The Gemstone’s own Rarity determines its passive Ability’s strength. These are different properties of two different items.
The shapes must match
There are five shapes: circular, triangular, square, diamond and pentagonal. A circular Gemstone fits a circular Socket; a square one cannot replace it even if both items are Mythical. Square and diamond are also distinct shapes.
A Relic’s Socket number and shapes are fixed. A Gemstone’s shape cannot be changed either. Ranking up the Relic therefore cannot fix incompatibility. Find another matching pair rather than adding stars.

What the Gemstone actually provides
Read the passive Ability before socketing. The official screen below selects the circular Mythical Boss Slayer: its wearer deals 10% more damage to Bosses. That is a Boss-damage bonus, not a socketing success chance or a universal bonus against every enemy.

Inspect the unchanged Plarium originals at full size: Sockets and Gemstone shapes and Boss Slayer’s description.
Shape compatibility and Ability operation are separate checks. If a Gemstone is socketed but the expected effect does not appear, read its activation conditions. Our separate guide explains which Relics and Gemstones need ACC. Matching shapes do not remove an Ability’s conditions.
Check the pair before socketing
- Read the Gemstone’s description and choose a Champion who benefits from its passive Ability.
- Check the intended Relic for an empty Socket of the same shape. Compare outlines, not frame colours.
- If shapes match, different Rarities do not prevent socketing. If they do not match, a Rank upgrade will not help.
- Before confirming, reread the selected items and conditions in the current game window.
To use a Gemstone, find a Relic with a matching Socket and an Ability useful to the Champion. A Mythical Gemstone does not require a Mythical Relic.
