RAID Relic stuck at Level 12? Rank is the next check
Why a Relic shows Max at Level 12, how much Basalt the next Rank needs and why stars do not change Rarity. Two official screens explained.
Published · Updated

Max on a Rank 4 Relic means its current Level cap is 12, not that progression is over. Plarium’s Relic guide separates Level, Rank and Rarity. Before spending resources, establish which of these three properties your quest asks you to change.
The original context was the 5 October 11.80 preview announcing Clan vs. Clan (CvC) objectives for crafting and upgrading Relics. That announcement did not provide a points table. It alone cannot establish spending value or what an active quest will count. Our CvC Personal Rewards guide separates personal thresholds, Clan victory and objective limits.
Max at Level 12 is a stop before the next Rank
A Relic is an equippable item with stat bonuses and a special Ability. Starstones increase its Level. Rank sets the cap: Ranks 1–6 allow Levels 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 respectively.
The official Hallowed Hilt screen below has Upgrade Level selected. It shows four stars, Lvl: 12 [Max] and a red message requiring a Rank upgrade for further improvement. Pressing the Level upgrade again does not remove that limit.

The Ability is shown separately: Ability Level 4 → 5 is tied to Lvl. 15. It is a future threshold, not an already acquired fifth Ability Level. RES, or Resistance, is also marked LVL. 15. Distinguish active bonuses from ones the interface says will unlock later.
Rank 5 requires four sacrificial materials
At the current Rank’s maximum Level, switch to Upgrade Rank. It consumes Relics or Basalt of the same Rank, in a quantity equal to the item’s current Rank. Basalt is a dedicated material for this upgrade.
In the second example, the Rank 4 Relic has reached Level 12. Four material slots are available underneath, and Max Level shows 12 → 15. Moving to Rank 5 therefore needs four Rank 4 materials, not five. Count by the current Rank, not the desired Rank.

Inspect each selected item before confirming. Sacrificing a Relic upgrades another one; first make sure your Champions or a future build do not need it. Availability in the list is not a reason to consume it.
Six stars do not make a Relic Mythical
Rarity is fixed for each Relic and does not change through upgrades. Every Relic can reach Rank 6, but a Rare remains Rare. Sockets hold Gemstones that add passive Abilities. Their number also stays fixed: Rare, Epic, Legendary and Mythical Relics have one, two, three and four Sockets respectively. Gemstone compatibility depends on Socket shape, so even a Mythical Gemstone can fit a Rare Relic.
Assess the outcome using the particular item’s properties. More stars cannot give this Relic a different Ability or more Sockets. Hallowed Hilt is already Mythical in these screens; upgrading Rank is not how that Rarity is acquired.
If an upgraded Relic does not produce the expected effect, check more than Level. Our Relic and Gemstone Accuracy guide separates activation conditions, proc chance and ACC, including Wand of Submission’s reflection exception.
Unlike Relics, Artifacts do not gain Rank through normal Level upgrades. Our post-11.80 Artifact Chest guide explains why stars, Rarity and reward source need separate checks.
What to record before the next upgrade
Copy the quest’s exact action first: craft a Relic, increase its Level or increase its Rank. Record the selected item’s stars and Level, desired result and materials. “Rank 4, Level 12; target Rank 5; four Rank 4 materials” is more precise than “upgrade a Relic.”
For a Frontier goal, check the open quest and its counter. Our Frontier and Explorer Pass guide explains why reward access and completing a condition are separate. Overlapping events do not prove that one upgrade will count twice.
The source guide and preview were reread on 9 October 2026. Both body images are original Plarium demonstrations with unspecified capture dates. Their resource balances and Hallowed Hilt properties do not calculate your reserves or recommend spending them for CvC.
