Developed the wrong hero? Heroic Legacy offers a second chance in Doomsday
A player used up swaps experimenting with heroes. Learn what Heroic Legacy exchanges, who is ineligible and how to choose pairs that leave your squads ready to fight.

Heroic Legacy in Doomsday: Last Survivors lets you exchange the development of two eligible Legendary heroes. It is a chance to rebuild a squad, but attempts are limited: spending them on experiments with favorite characters is risky.
How swap attempts disappear
In July 2026, a player reported on Reddit that he had moved development from Cynthia to Sven, then to Elena and back. He wanted to test which hero would be better. After running out of attempts, he began waiting for the event to return and asked whether he had missed his only chance.
In the version 1.51.0 description, dated 18 November 2025, IGG specified one participation per account and up to four swaps. Do not plan around unlimited pair testing.
What actually changes places
The exchange covers level, Star Rank, skill levels and Awakening. Hero A receives B's development and B receives A's. That means a strong character can become weaker.
Compare both lineups after the exchange: who becomes stronger, who loses development and who fills their previous role? Improving one pair may cost you another working squad.
Hero Conversion is a different feature, processing excess fragments and cores after development requirements are met. Heroic Legacy is the feature for exchanging a pair's development.
Why your chosen hero may be missing
IGG's stated requirements were a Federation history of at least 49 days, an account age of at least 45 days and Headquarters level 10 or above. For Superheroes, the Doomsday Weapon must not have been upgraded.
Excluded heroes include Catherine Calamity, Master Jin, Jaden, Maxine Wincott, Norah, Marco & Eri, Mai Shiranui and Jack Bronte, along with future crossover heroes.
These conditions come from the published event rules. Check the eligible heroes and timer in your own current Heroic Legacy window.
Choose the squad you want to build
In a December 2025 discussion, a free-to-play player considered replacements for Rider heroes. One useful question in the replies was whose fragments would be harder to obtain later. It helps assess an exchange through future development, rather than somebody else's hero ranking alone.
Start with a task: whom do you want to strengthen, and for which battle? Check their partner, troop type and future development sources. A high rating in another player's lineup does not explain the hero's role in yours. For team events, agree on the role with officers first; the alliance activity checklist's questions can help.
Assess the old squad separately. If the hero giving up development was regularly used, find a replacement in advance. Otherwise, your new strong character may cost you an already functional team.
Write down a plan: ‘I exchange A's development with B's for this squad; C covers A's previous role.’ If nobody can fill that role, the decision needs more review.

Another player's timer is a poor guide
In August 2026, another player asked what migration would do to the event timer. He had 40 days left, while players in the destination region mentioned three. One respondent said his own account had retained its timer after moving.
That reply describes one account and cannot guarantee the same outcome for your migration. If a swap depends on moving, check your own timer and event conditions beforehand, and ask support if they remain unclear.
What to check before confirming
Both heroes are available. Check the pair directly in the event window before planning around it.
The outcome is clear for each hero. Compare current development with the interface's preview. Pay particular attention to the hero you are weakening.
The strengthened hero has a place. You know their partner, squad and combat task.
The remaining swaps are planned. Write down all pairs before the first confirmation. This makes it easier to spot a chain that consumes several attempts for one result.
A useful Heroic Legacy plan describes the squads you will have after all exchanges. Make it before the first confirmation, while every attempt is still available.
